Lomi-lomi is an unusual massage. It comes from Hawaii, and is traditionally based on philosophy of Huna, which teaches that in the world circulates a kind of life-giving energy called 'mana'. In ancient times the massage was performed by kahunas - priests and guardians of mystic knowledge and healing system. They joined the massage with dancing around a stone altar. The ritual was usually performed for the chosen ones - people who were supposed to exercise authority in the community. The massage lasted for many hours, even days, accompanied by the sound of healing hymns.'Lomi' is a Hawaiian name which means 'massage'.
